HEMAAbout Us

At HEMA, innovations do not come about by chance, but from tradition - and have been for 100 years!

Heermann Maschinenbau GmbH is a medium-sized, internationally operating family company that has specialized in band saw technology and custom-made cutting systems. Founded in 1920 by the machinist Paul Heermann, HEMA is now managed by the fourth generation. The name HEMA has stood for quality, innovation and reliability in specialist circles for 100 years.

The company developed from a manufacturer of standard band saw machines to a provider of complex cutting solutions.

Today, HEMA designs complete, innovative and customized sawing and cutting systems for a wide variety of materials. The respective customer problems are always in the foreground. In addition, HEMA also supplies special tools that are tailored to the respective material. With this complete range, our customers achieve economical cutting performance with high precision. Our service is exemplary! We don't let our customers down and keep practically all wear parts in stock at all times.

The perfect product
for the customer

When designing every machine, the intended use and the associated cutting tool play a decisive role. Almost 100 years of experience flow into this selection and ensure that the customer can be offered the most efficient solution. Our machines are increasingly being used for processing light materials for aviation, wind power and future mobility, but also for cutting insulation and building materials.

Change in
Way of thinking

With the agile project management introduced in 2013 by the current management, our traditional approach was renewed: At HEMA, instead of rigid departments, there are value-adding teams and function-oriented roles instead of fixed responsibilities. Flat hierarchies have been introduced, the team organizes itself. A common goal drives the teams every day: to inspire our customers and to exceed their expectations. With a highly motivated team of around 45 employees, innovative, customer-specific systems are implemented every day. Prerequisites for this are short decision-making paths and strong personal responsibility of all team members involved in the project.

90 years ago, everything started to turn

"Everyone" in the future has to know, who Paul the locksmith has been" - this is written onto the diary of the founder of the company - Paul Heermann. He has been a man full of ideas and energy, a real pioneer who unified his talent for technical coherences with entrepreneurial spirit. Under the tough circumstances of that time, the locksmith-master worked purposefully on the success of his little workshop company, located in Frickenhausen and founded 1920 in the "Obere Strasse 20".

The high quality of his work as well as his "Swabian assiduity" proved to be good pathfinders: by creating practical inventions and improvements of the former engineering technologies, the pioneer soon made a name for himself among experts.

When passing down the responsibility to his son Gottilf in 1964, the little Workshop had grown to a stable company, employing 18 people.

His inheritors always continued to lead HEMA to success, according to the model of their ancestor - and they still do! Gotthilf moved the plant to a spacious new building in the "Sulzburgstrasse", former "Albstrasse". Always following the motto "slowly but surely" HEMA has grown to one of Germany's biggest and most flexible manufacturers of wood bandsaws and cutting systems for nearly all materials that exist on the market.

At the beginning of 2009, Paul's great-grandson Christoph Heermann joined the company to continue the business in the fourth generation with Markus Bleher (together until 2022). Christoph's sister Katrin had joined their parents' business some time before and currently heads the company's purchasing department.

Since January 1, 2022, HEMA has been part of the Wintersteiger Group, headquartered in Ried im Innkreis, Austria, under the management of Christoph Heermann. As part of the WOODTECH business segment, HEMA complements the range of machines with special solutions for the lightweight construction as well as insulation industry in addition to the classic wood band saws.

We are proud to be "part of Wintersteiger" and look forward to joint growth in the coming years. Thus, the company stands on a solid foundation, which it has continuously built up with inventive spirit, heart and mind during the more than 100 years of its market presence.

"As a Swabian we know how to work meticulously!"
